Fellow Digesters: I know my partner Chris Koch is gonna go orbital about this. You know "Mr. Chris NEVER EAT IN A CAR Koch". But ... I do all the time. However I am a fastidious SOB and immediately clean up afterwards even down to vacuuming crumbs etc.
Also living in Southern California where you must have a cool drink handy at all times lest you die of dehydration. (I tell Chris, living in Buffalo, NY to repeat three times.. "California is a desert, California is a desert, California is a desert"), whenever he considers the subtle points of motoring out West and why cupholders are important to us SouthWesterners - and not silly.
Which brings me to my point... the cupholders which do not exist in our beloved e32s.
PROBLEM SOLVED!
To my amazement and delight I have discovered the nicest cupholder you could possibly imagine for the e32 (and e34). Not some cludge of cheap plastic and double sided tape, this is a custom molded device that form fits behind your shifter under the ashtray on the console. Viola! It ain't gonna win any beauty contests, but boy it works! And it even provides a second cupholder for the significant other who has been known to say "How come I have to hold your drink all the time?...and, Well, you have your drink but who's gonna hold my drink?... and Aren't we there yet!" (Satch Carlson, editor of the Roundel, has The Oakley Woman, I have The Dakota Girl.)
Anyway... It's a two holer...and nicely done. The maker, who I have spoken with on the phone, sounds like a senior citizen engineer with a molding business who did this for himself and friends and now is almost a business. He has no advertising, no website no fliers... just sells on eBay and now, by special arrangement with yours truly, directly to us. I do not get a cut on this, only the satisfaction of helping fellow digesters.
PS One thing to spoil your fun ... if you have a car with ASC where the switch is between the ashtray area and the console, it isn't for you. Take a close look at the photos and you'll see why. On my '94 750iL it works fine because the ASC+T switch is up next to the ashtray.
